I had something similar happen to my Fiesta, though it was more of a metal-on-metal scraping sound, like the front brake caliper was rubbing against the wheel, or the sound a disc brake would make without any brake pads. Both times the sound was heard at low speed only.
I might have had it pushing 100 once or twice; ran out of room too fast on the one straight stretch. The standard maximum engine speed of 6375 RPM is. indicated by a narrow redline on the tachometer face. The redline becomes thicker at the overspeed engine speed of 6500 RPM.
though top speed i have had out of mine is around 115 on a private road on the 1.4 16v the torque really starts to come in at around 2900 rpm when standard and carries on up to around 4500rpm. mine starts to pull at about 2400-500 rpm and just keeps going until about 5000.
