Introduction. The Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM was introduced back in June 1993. Price-wise it sits in-between the extremely expensive EF 50mm f/1.2 USM L and the "cheap" EF 50mm f/1.8 II. There have been calls in forums out there that the lens is outdated by now (e.g. due to the non-circular aperture) but so far Canon had different priorities.
Cameras were 6D and 7D, lens in tests were Canon EF 35mm 1.4 L and Canon EF 50mm STM. I used tripod, all test were set at 1/250 up to 1/640 , f/1.8 , ISO 100. Focus were set on the cross in the middle of this remote . This one is result with 50mm lens . This pic were result of 35mm lens . I did attempt to do little AMA using dotune method, +2 The 35 f/1.4L focuses fast and silently thanks to the Ring USM (Ultrasonic Motor). FTM (Full Time Manual focus) is supported as well. The Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L USM Lens is slightly soft at f/1.4, but useable in my opinion. There is a noticeable improvement by f/2.0 (quite sharp). Personalmente me la porterei sempre dietro, per la maneggevolezza e per la focale che, sia su FF che su APS-C, permette quasi ogni genere di scatto, mantenendo l'ottima qualità di una lente fissa. According to Samyang there're 2 high refraction factor elements which help to reduce the weight and size but the lens is actually slightly more heavy and somewhat longer than e.g. both the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4 USM L and Nikkor AF-S 35mm f/1.4G. The front element does not rotate during focus operations. The physical length of the lens remainsSKG2.
